Registration to stay in Finland EU/ETA student

Are you coming to Finland because of your studies and you are from another EU/ETA country?

You can stay up to 3 months in Finland without registration of your stay. However, the sooner you register at Migri = Finnish Immigration Service and Maistraatti  = Digital and Population Data services Agency, the sooner your life and other documentations handling becomes easier. Kela Application

If you are a citizen of another EU or EEA or of Switzerland, you can get financial aid even if you have come to Finland to study.

  • You can get financial aid if you are employed in Finland for at least 4 months with an average of at least 10 hours of work per week, or if you have taken out statutory pension insurance for self-employed persons. The entitlement to financial aid for students only continues for the duration of the employment.
  • You can also get financial aid if you have been granted the right of permanent residence in Finland under the Aliens Act.

Find your phone operator

Pre-paid sim card: You can easily get a pre-paid sim card in for example any R-kioski or the operators’ stores. You can then top up your SIM card online or again in any R-kioski.

To be able to get a phone contract, you will need a passport, Finnish social security number and a clear credit record. You also need to have lived in Finland for at least two years

In order to get a phone contract you may need to pay a deposit which is up to 500€ euros if you have been in Finland for less than 2 years
