Digital storytelling

Can collaborative digital storytelling change the world? We believe so.

Stories have the power to move and inspire people by touching their hearts and minds. But how to go about creating stories that connect people in today’s digital environment? We will help you out step by step. Here you can learn more about our hands-on digital storytelling process.

What is Digital Storytelling?

Digital storytelling (DST) can take many forms: video narratives, blog entries, social media posts, podcast episodes, digital essays or documentaries, e-stories, and so on. As a pedagogical practice, it works well for engaging students with real-life problems. DST is also excellent for training skills in interaction, co-creation, and critical thinking.

Digital Storytelling Process

Our Learn to Change digital storytelling process has five steps: 1) research and audience insight, 2) concept design, 3) scripting and storyboarding, 4) digital production, 5) publication and engagement. For each DST step, we provide a set of co-creative assignments with which higher education students, guided by their teachers, can embark on a DST journey in collaboration with industry stakeholders.

The DST process starts with thorough background research and analysis of target audience needs and wants. In step 2, we design a topic and a concept for our story: what, to whom, why and how? The next step is to create a script and a storyboard that help us construct and visualize our story from beginning to end. During step 4, we produce and edit our story, using media preferred by our target audience. In the final step, we publish our DST outputs on digital channels and engage with our target audience.
